Enter the Brian Cushing Era…aka Make Em Hurt..

Coming off THE MOST IMPRESSIVE WIN EVER by our long overdue hometown boys, I’m feeling pretty good about the future of our defense. After a worthless first quarter that saw big play after big play by Chris Jack Rabbit Johnson (who makes Edgerrin James look like a chach bag btw), we saw the defense finally make an adjustment and settle in. What we also saw was a new found physical presence that has to have Texans fans giddy at the future. Now, its no secret that I’m a big fan of Brian Cushing, but I honestly had never really seen him in any real time on the field since I’m not the biggest of college football fans, yet. But yeah, call it what you will, but this dude has BAD ASS written all over him, and has had for a LONG time. I started to really appreciate him when I watched his predraft workouts at DeFranco’s Gym in New Jersey. It was immediately clear that this kid will stop at nothing to be the absolute best that he can be on and off the football field. In a new era where speed and intelligence is at a premium, he is a throwback to the days of pure unadulterated intimidation. Whether on the ball or off the ball, this dude lets you know he’s there on every play. I wish I could find a clip of this, but on a left outside rush yesterday, Chris Johnson came over to block “Cush” on the way to demolishing Kerry Collins, and he’s probably wishing he didn’t. While Collins was spared because of his effort, Chris Johnson got lifted off his feet (to put it mildly) and reminded of why he relies on his speed and not his size. “Hey, that’s my football personality, I’ve always been a hard hitter. I’m a guy that’ll give you four quarters. I’ll still be running to the ball. I know the running back on the other side is going to get tired of me tackling him, and I know the offensive line is going to get tired of blocking me. I’m a nonstop guy. I bring that intensity.”
The dude is a freak of nature, and he’s not happy with that either. This is what makes him special, just youtube his name and you will literally find hundreds of videos of his infamous workouts. Regardless of what you think of him, you have to appreciate when somebody takes anything as serious as this guy does. Just please stay healthy bro.
PS, dudes vertical jump is ridiculous. And he dunks in Tims…….hey, he’s from Jersey.

Yeah, his hard-hitting nature is why he’s hurt all of the time. Hopefully he can stay healthy because he’s an important part of our defense.
